Exhibits

The museum features a number of dinosaur skeletons and a living bird skeleton. While the living bird skeletons are not on display, they do allow children to observe the relationship between dinosaurs and birds. In fact, birds and dinosaurs are related, as both had three toed feet. The dinosaurs were not only meat-eating creatures, but they also hunted birds.

Funding

After years of hard work and planning, the new dinosaur discovery museum in Peace River, British Columbia, has finally opened its doors. Since its opening in 2000, there have been many big discoveries including dinosaur tracks and fossils, showing how various types of dinosaurs used to live in the region. The museum's role in local and regional history was also recognized by UNESCO, which named it a geopark. It's the first museum in north America to receive this prestigious title. But, unfortunately, these prestigious titles have made funding for the project challenging.

After years of planning, a nonprofit group, the Dinosaur Discovery Museum, opened in St. George. Funding came from donations, granting agencies, and the museum's gift shop. The funds were originally intended to build a museum to showcase the museum's fossil resources. Unfortunately, the funding was not enough to keep the museum open. It's now relying on private donors to raise the money it needs to keep the museum open.
