The Racine Zoo has recently become Wisconsin's first sensory inclusive zoo. In partnership with KultureCity, the zoo underwent extensive staff training to become more accessible and knowledgeable for guests with sensory challenges. Sensory challenges are commonly experienced by individuals with autism, dementia, and PTSD. Visitors with sensory challenges can check out a sensory bag at the entrance gate, which includes noise-canceling headphones, fidget tools, and verbal cue cards.
Located on the shores of Lake Michigan, the Racine Zoo is home to over 75 species of animals, including several endangered species. Visitors can meet friendly birds in the aviary, walk among wallaroos in Walkabout Creek, feed and pet domestic animals in the Barnyard Safari, and observe lions and giraffes.
