The Crystal Lake Park District began a multi-phase project in 2014 to restore the hydrology of Sterne's Fen. Phase II includes the removal of large dead or dying trees that pose a hazard to staff and volunteers. A detailed schedule of tree removal will be posted on the project's website in the future. At this time, it is hoped that the project will be completed in 2018.

In addition to the wooded park, you can visit the historic Palmer Mansion. This historic mansion was built in the mid-19th century and features Federalist and Greek Revival architecture. The house was once a home for two wealthy residents, Gustavus A. Palmer and Henrietta Palmer. Today, it is a National Register of Historic Places. It is one of the many attractions in Crystal Lake and the surrounding area.

Families can take a hike in the park or bike around the small lake. The wetlands have plenty of water activities, including a splash pad and sledding hill. The Crystal Lake Park District's Nature Center offers nature-oriented activities and programs, as well as a fossil collection, a habitat wall, and an aquarium for kids.
